Why These Quantities?
This calculator uses the IBA standard recipe (3:2:1) for a classic Aperol Spritz: 3 fl oz (90 ml) Prosecco, 2 fl oz (60 ml) Aperol, and 1 fl oz (30 ml) soda water per drink – plus 2.8 oz (80 g) of ice and one orange slice per drink. The three vibes (Sunday Chill: 2, Party Mode: 4, Aperol Tsunami: 6 drinks per person) are based on real party consumption patterns – the more relaxed the occasion, the fewer drinks; the more festive, the more.

Sunday Chill vs. Aperol Tsunami – How Much More Do You Need?
The difference between vibes is significant: for 20 guests you need only 3 bottles of Aperol in Chill mode, 7 in Party Mode, and 10 bottles in Aperol Tsunami mode – three times as much. Planning ahead matters: running out of Aperol at 8 PM kills the vibe.

Common Mistakes When Planning Aperol Spritz
❌ Buying too little ice
Problem: In a wine glass with Aperol Spritz, ice melts in 15–20 minutes at 77°F (25°C) – much faster than in a cooler. At 40 drinks on a hot summer day, 7 lbs often won't last until the end.
✅ Fix: In temperatures above 82°F (28°C), add 30% more ice. Use a separate ice container for filling glasses – not the same one you use for chilling drinks.
❌ Buying Prosecco and Aperol but forgetting soda water
Problem: Soda water is the most commonly forgotten Aperol ingredient. Without the splash, you miss the carbonation balance – the drink tastes too sweet and heavy.
✅ Fix: Calculate 1 fl oz (30 ml) soda per drink and always buy it separately. One liter covers about 33 drinks. Sparkling water works in a pinch, but classic soda water is better.
❌ Forgetting oranges or buying too few
Problem: An Aperol Spritz without an orange slice looks unfinished. People often underestimate – one orange only yields 8 slices.
✅ Fix: Always buy 2 more oranges than calculated. Cut them fresh just before serving – brown cut edges look unappetizing. Alternatively, use organic oranges and a peel twist as garnish.
❌ Choosing Prosecco that's too sweet
Problem: Buying "Sweet" or "Demi-Sec" Prosecco makes the Aperol Spritz overly sweet. The bitter aromatic profile of Aperol gets smothered.
✅ Fix: Choose "Extra Dry" or "Brut" Prosecco. Residual sugar drops to 12–17 g/L instead of 32–50 g/L – giving you the right balance.
❌ Serving warm Prosecco
Problem: Warm Prosecco loses carbonation immediately and melts the ice faster. A lukewarm Aperol Spritz is not an Aperol Spritz.
✅ Fix: Chill Prosecco at least 4 hours ahead, ideally overnight. In a pinch: 30 minutes in an ice-water bath (chills 2× faster than an empty fridge).
Frequently Asked Questions
Special Cases: Big Groups, Welcome Drinks & Last-Minute Parties
Three scenarios that are often underestimated:
- Large groups (50+ guests): For very large groups, 1 L Aperol bottles are more efficient than 700 ml – you get 16 drinks per bottle instead of 11, reducing your bottle count by about 30%. For Prosecco, magnum bottles (1.5 L) are often cheaper per liter.
- Last-minute party: If you need to shop in 2 hours, use this shortcut: 1 bottle Aperol + 1.5 bottles Prosecco + 0.5 L soda per 3 people for 4 drinks. Divide guest count by 3 and round up.
- Aperol Spritz as a welcome drink: Guests typically have 1–2 glasses as an arrival drink. Plan 1.5 drinks per person – significantly less than a full garden party.
